Toby has been painting and dabbling in various forms for over 40 years.
For many years, she taught Tole painting at her own studio and ‘guest’ taught all over the Ottawa Valley.
Many students got their start in her studio. Toby’s studio was a haven for the serious as well as the recreational painter. Her classes were fun and many friendships were formed.
At present, Toby is trying out new mediums and some altered art forms.
Acrylic paints are still her favourite medium, but Toby has been trying to perfect her pencil crayon skills.
Toby’s favourite thing is to find an old piece of wood, boxes, plates, tin items and even used canvasses. She then cleans them up and refurbishes them with a new look and art work. Her motifs range from flowers, fruit, animals and scenery.
She does love to do altered art by incorporating all types of items into her art work. Discards, to Toby, become a new piece of artwork!
Toby’s favourite phrase is “she paints what ever turns her on at the moment”.
And, like every true crafts person, she works on several different pieces at once and has many unfinished pieces waiting for tomorrow.
Toby only sells at the Maple Run Tour or privately (she welcomes commissions). Toby has participated in the Maple Run Tour for 14 years and has helped out the tour in many capacities.
My favourite maple memory:
The best maple treat for her does not come until June, when the strawberries are ripe. Toast with mashed strawberries and maple syrup….yum, yum, yum!!
