We’re really really pumped to announce a Maple Run first – a chainsaw carver! Known up and down the Valley for his chainsaw carving, Kyle Bertrand of Bertrand’s Big Bear Carving will be selling his amazing creations as well as giving live demos.
Kyle, who hails from Campbell’s Bay, started carving in 2015 as a hobby. The first piece he made was for his wife: a bear for the front porch. From there word of mouth took over. People stopped to see what he had done and started ordering custom pieces.
Kyle loves a challenge and the harder a piece is the more satisfying it is to produce. The most challenging piece he had to carve was a 18 foot standing tree totem. To produce the carving, Kyle had to cut the tree at about 18-20 feet up and then carve the leftover trunk into a totem. A final step was to carve an 8 foot long sled dog and attach it to the top of the totem – and all this while coping with a fear of heights! The finished sculpture turned out beautifully and was an accomplishment to be proud of.
